Overview
Art at Amtrak engaged me in the creation of a strategic plan, and the curation of artists in regards to a temporary art program held within Penn Station NYC, which will continue over the course of several years. Built upon the highly successful public art at Moynihan Train Hall, the Art at Amtrak Program invites artists from New York and New Jersey to create site specific original work. These installations enliven the public spaces of the busiest train station in the Western Hemisphere, before and during the station renovation, making it a destination to explore the commissioned art work of regional artists.
Goals
The goals are to enhance and energize the public spaces for the benefit of commuters coming back to work after Covid, and to curate artists who can create impact, as well as stretch their body of work with site-specific installation. The program gives emerging and mid-career artists exposure to a far larger audience than any museum or gallery exhibition can offer.
Process
The process includes several departments within Amtrak, ColorX, a vinyl printer/installer, Paper Robot Graphic Design and Karen Kitchen, producer.
Additional Information
Art at Amtrak has been enormously successful and has well received by the public, artists and Amtrak.
