Client: Philadelphia International Airport

Overview

Leibrand’s labor-intensive process includes cutting, painting, folding, stitching, gluing, and pinning thousands of fabric elements on to a substrate. . Her work builds and grows the composition element by element, she purposefully contours the overall shape and embeds “intimate details into sections of the form, waiting for viewers to find them.” The square footage of this piece is 312 ft, and made of felt, foam, clay, and yarn.

Goals

The Philadelphia International Airport commissioned this piece based off of my previously shown artwork. They left all design aspects up to my discretion.

Process

I acted as artist and designer for this project, with representatives from the airport acting as consults. They had an amazing installation team that I worked closely with to install and upkeep the piece.
