Overview
All Our Relations is a collaboration between Cree/Metis designer Angela DeMontigny, glass artist Paull Rodrigues, the public art management team of Cobalt Connects and LaFontaine IronWorks. The piece is comprised of 5 towers of hand-made glass beads, each tower is 10′ wide and 40′ tall. The designs depict the narrative of the All Our Relations – Thanksgiving Address of the Haudenosaunee people in more than 7000 hand-made 3″ glass beads. This work will be a monumental piece at the base of James Street on the lands of the Hamilton Port Authority. Installation is planned for summer of 2022.
Goals
The work is celebrating the renewal of the Hamilton Waterfront and anchors the space in the Indigenous teachings of stewardship of the land.
Process
Cobalt Connects, seeing a lack of Indigenous work in civic collections, reached out to Cree/Metis fashion designer Angela DeMontigny to collaborate on the submission. Rooted in sustainable design, the team selected glass artist Paull Rodrigue to create the 7000+ beads for the work.
