Overview

The white concrete fountain consists of a trapezoidal area of 1,350 square feet. Water flows from the top surface down the sides of the fountain. There are nineteen 8″x8″x1.5″ royal blue ceramic objects near the top of the fountain which contain white signatures of the elected officials and members of the Board of Directors. There are 33 6″x6″x1.5″ objects and there are 100 4″x4″x1.5″ objects with ten separate color glazes from the royal blue objects with the signatures.

Goals

The goal was to call special attention to the leadership, vision and community support for the ONE DAYTONA project, specifically the City of Daytona Beach and County of Volusia, Florida. The decision was made to use a fountain as a backdrop to the signatures of the elected officials and members of the Board of Directors. The sculpture, comprised of 152 individual objects, is installed on a public fountain location outside P.F. Chang's in Victory Circle.

Process

The collaborative process between the Artist, the Vice President of Design, The Senior Director of Corporate Development Management, the fountain contractor, and the object installers was seamless. Everyone worked together to accomplish a very ambitious project in a very short period of time. The International Speedway Corporation staff helped facilitate the signature capture of elected officials and members of the Board of Directors for incorporation in to the mixed-media installation. Each signature was transposed onto 8"x8"x1.5" objects and fired to cone 6. While there were many hurdles and obstacles to overcome, the goal to create a unique fountain was embraced and realized through the collective efforts of all parties.
