Overview
“Nurture,” is a functional public art installation that extends its ramifications to reach the people and communities from the diverse activities that surround this city park.
To find a dialogue between rigid vs. fluid, attract attention, and provide a welcoming focal point, a color’s combination is used as one of the elements to produce a vibrant artwork that flows with the space but softens the rigidness of the straight architectural lines of the buildings around it.
Materials: Polished concrete, glass mosaic tile and metal
Location: Hightower Park, Downtown Oklahoma City, OK. Park extension of the Oklahoma City Hall’s gardens and right next to Oklahoma City Museum of Art.
Goals
The goal of this public functional artwork was to inject an element of surprise into the urban routine, brings to life the hidden layers of the park, brings a spark of better environmental quality, inspires the imagination and opens the window of what else could be possible
Additional Information
This project came to life after the proposal of the artist Beatriz Mayorca, won the 2017 Downtown OKC Partnership - Artist Invitational Award.
