Overview
GUST is situated in Discovery Green Park along the Brown Promenade, a limestone path shaded by majestic 100-year-old oak trees forming the main artery of the park. The Mexico City based design collective Cocolab created an interactive, site-specific artwork using an array of pinwheels to visualize the invisible patterns of the wind. Intended to be playful and interactive, GUST invites you to ´be the wind´ and make the pinwheels turn. There are four blowing stations, each featuring a powerful fan and single pinwheel on top that activates the fan when users blow it.
Goals
Inspired by simple celebrations of community, and by folk traditions of hand-made art, GUST is intended to provide a joyful gathering place for people to come together, to feel and see the breeze, and to play.
Process
GUST uses an array of 1,600 hand made pinwheels created by the artists in Mexico City and assembled on site by volunteers and staff at Discovery Green.
