Client: NEW FOUND WORLD for NOVOTEL

Overview

This piece is a sculpture but it is also a fountain and and it speaks about the relationship between space and volume, as an hypothetical “alchimic” transformation from the solid state to the liquid form. It is the transformation in between the terrestrial and the celestial.
 
A mysterious space creates in its center a dynamic movement and a dialogue between the wall and the flat fountain.
Transformatter creates the illusion of a solid mass of marble turning into real water which irradiate all the garden until the pool.

Goals

Carved in 3 pieces out of the same block of Carrara white marble, the piece is designed to delineate the source of water for the whole garden and pool complex. 

Process

This work represents perfectly my objective to rekindle the natural relationship between sculpture and architecture. I think that everything which has a destination and a function is subject to compromise. In our case, that’s exactly what I’m trying to explore between Art and function, sculpture and architecture.
And if Transformatter interrogate us about the static status of the sculpture in general and in a fountain in particular, here in Tung Chung, the sculpture does not exist without the landscape and ... vice versa.
