Overview

Symphony in D Minor is an interactive installation on an epic scale. A thunderstorm contained within a series of resin sculptures, each form is a unique instrument hanging from the ceiling.
Suspended just within reach and activated by touch, the viewer sets the symphony in motion by pushing the forms through the air to trigger the various sound elements of the storm. Sensors relay individual recordings of thunder, wind and rain with alternating intensities to a full-scale sound system.
Acting as a musician, the viewer creates an evolving composition out of atmospheric sounds, forging an environment that envelops the audience.

Goals

We created this installation to give viewers a chance to let go of their inhibitions and play. Watching as viewers faces changed as they create a thunderstorm is beautiful.

Additional Information

This installation first showed in Philadelphia at the Skybox gallery, an epic 7,000sqf space with 40' ceilings and was curated by Eileen Tognini. In 2014 Hydroplis Museum in Wroclaw Poland acquired it.
