Overview

Sacra : A symbolic gateway reflecting the past and future passages we all share between the sacred and the worldly, Source into Form. 14″ x 9″ Mirror-polished stainless steel, mild steel, acrylic and steel mirror.

Goals

It was important to engineer an anchoring system that allowed for a) minimal visual impact, 2) quick install in unpredictable weather conditions with limited equipment access, 3) stability in an earth platform with exposure to occasional high winds, a physically interactive and unsupervised public body of 80,000 for 9 days.

Process

I worked closely with the structural engineer, Rafael Heredia, to devise a pattern and frame that maintained a visually uplifting quality while maintaining stability in occasional high wind conditions.
