Overview

ZEBRADOG was honored to assist The University of Pittsburgh (Pitt) and architectural partner Strada, in developing a series of signature experiential components for a truly one-of-a-kind educational engagement space. The PittGlobal Hub features digital technology that provides interactive program exploration, social media integration, and an experiential “portal” providing a window to diverse cultures, landscapes, and opportunities around the world.

Goals

Overall goals for the project were to facilitate the University's mission of Taking Pitt to the World and Bringing the World to Pitt. The design team sought to create a space that is both beautiful and approachable; one that students will want to enter and actively engage with. Our work included efforts to expose and share global opportunities that are otherwise are not visible, answer questions, and provide guidance for students seeking to study abroad. The design needed to be flexible to accommodate the variety of functions the space must host and facilitate.

Process

Our team worked to create an ambitious series of signature art data features that transported students to places around the globe and integrated large amounts of information. The end products combine aspects of art, interior design, architecture, and rich data-driven content that change as an hourly ritual, allowing something special for students and staff to look forward to everyday.

Additional Information

Every hour, on the hour, the Pitt Global Studies World Clock visually chimes viewers into a new international destination. 12 screens "tick" through a series of animated illustrations derived from flags of the world while LED channels slowly light up into a country-specific color scheme. The light leads guests to a second experience where videos corresponding with the country of the hour offer a portal to cultural exploration and understanding.Â
