Overview
Site specific art installation suitable for hospitals, schools and art related spaces. Ten pillars, range from 10 to 12 feet combined with complementary wall art. Each pillar has a completely unique design filled with birds, fish and elegant stories which raise questions on environmental concerns. This can be designed in multiple ways to fit the client.
Goals
The artwork is the key element. Large concrete pouring forms were used as they are sound structurally but really light, easy to move and ship. The project can be created in many settings and change size depending on use. This version had ten pillars and ten pieces of artwork for wall use.
Process
A full portion of the downstairs of the Evergreen Museum was decorated with the pillars as part of a retrospective exhibition in the gallery. Curators and art staff helped, especially James Abbott, curator at the Johns Hopkins Evergreen Museum. I also had help from Old Town Editions and Chester Stacy (see Red Handed project) on conceiving and printing some of the art work.
Additional Information
This project is available for imaginative use in hospitals, suitable for children and can have educational components. Can work with communities to create their own pillar representations. Artist has worked with groups all over the country.
