Overview

The Phoenix is known to everybody as the legendary long lived fire bird that is cyclically regenerated or reborn by arising from the ashes of its predecessor. In China, Fenghuang (鳳凰) reigns over all other birds!. As the figure of virtue and grace, it symbolizes the union in between Yin and Yang.

Goals

It is with no surprise that we understand why China Resources has chosen that emblem to define their next multi use building development in this renewed city that is Beijing in 2008.

Process

I wanted this piece to part of the landscape and specially of the granite pavement. Granite is great!. As an ubiquitous component of the Earth crust, Granite has crystallized from magmas in fusion during a various laps of times. Granite is at the end just Fire!. And it's been a funny game that to integrate the piece in the landscape pavement design.

Additional Information

Here in Beijing Phoenix City, the re-birth is in act and physically, everything is in between. Granite is melting again and the 8 meters tall wings bursts suddenly from the stone pavement. At this high, this sculpture defy gravity and interrogate ourself about movement and stability. Welcome to a brand new life!.
