Overview
A public art commission for U. of Texas El Paso. An inspirational message on education, written in binary code perforates the twin tips of the head of the pick axe. Lit from within at night, the message is emphasized in an orange glow. The artwork is surrounded by native Chiquaquan Desert Flora to further emphasize the Universities origins in El Paso.
Goals
My goal was to create an icon for the school at its entrance that pushed the school's logo into the present and on toward the future.
Process
I acted as lead artist and designer on this project. I also managed the project with my team of sub contractors.
Additional Information
The University floods the exterior with the school colors of blue and orange after each football victory during the fall.
