Overview

Two 7'9″ Cast Bronze Spartans. Designed for Milton S. Hershey to represent their mascot. Installed in a newly constructed roundabout into the School grounds along with Bronze Cast Lettering spelling out the “Milton S. Hershey School”

Goals

This was a collaboration with the art students at Milton S. Hershey who handed in designs that they created. They wanted a strong presence so the Woman and Man Spartan Mascots were chosen to represent the strength and determination of the students who at ten Milton S. Hershey. They all have a story to tell about their lives and how they became students at the School.

Process

Becky Ault starts the process by sketching a drawing of the figures based on the students designs that they created. It takes approximately 6 months to a year to Sculpt a 7'9" Figure. The clay original is approved by the Client and then moves into the Mold process. Once the molds are complete they go through wax patterns, ceramic shell and Bronze Pour with breaking out and debating for metal chasing. They are then assembled by welding metal sections together, welds are chased in and the final metal detailing is completed. The last process is the Patina with wax sealant.

Additional Information

ART Research installed Bronze Cast lettering of the school name on the stone walls where each of the Spartans were being installed. The Sculptures were delivered to the school and ART Research did the Installation.
