Overview

“Monography”… The power of words and the various ways to express and use them. Verticality and horizontality According to different cultures. The sculptures standing in the forefront are expressing vertical writings “languages” and the large Art piece in the background is representing horizontal writings. As a ensemble they represent the aesthetical beauty and the power of words and handwriting.

Goals

The goal is to emphasize the fact that in modern world and technology. Hand written words which have been around for over two thousand years. Are slowly disappearing. People in present time do not write as much. They use computers. To me, in hand writing lays not only the meaning of the words. But the personality of the person who write. Thus, I wanted to remind us all of the beauty of hand written languages and how precious they are. To me handwritten words are a mirror of our souls, our cultures, our places, our accomplishments and our history as human.

Process

The project took several levels of involvement. First, I wanted to create a relationship in between various "horizontal & vertical" writings. That is how I came up with the long art piece and the sculpting in the forefront concept. Then I had to chose the materials. "Organic" for the long Art piece and "Human Made" for the sculptings. Thus in order to convey a sense of transversality in between materials and meaning. I then concretely materialized and translated this theme. by using laser cut stainless steel and Plexiglas, LED light for the sculptings. And hand stretched canvas for the long horizontal Art piece (2 x 12 meters). I then assembled both sides of each sculptings ( Plexiglas and stainless steel) together. And "re-used" the cut elements to create three other suspended sculptings. (Ying and Yang).

Additional Information

All featured words and phrases are abstract interpretations of various languages. No meaning is intended but the one to convey a tribute to handwritten word. Especially in a contemporary world where handwritten words are slowly disappearing… Materials used for the sculptings are stainless steel, Plexiglas, and LED light. Large horizontal Art piece in the back is hand painted on Canvas & Plexiglas.
