The City of Hutchinson wanted 3 projects for their new Community Sports Arena supporting Basketball and Volley Ball along with family recreation and meeting venues. KRS built three installations representing bright colors and hoop shapes of their major sport venue. The Exterior has two areas of 42 tree forms with the bright colored hoops and wedges of acrylic colors. Inside the main corridor is a 300' corridor with a flowing suspended sculpture of the hoops and 'Stix' forms. Our last project installation was made of 21 suspended posts in the Volley Ball entry lobby.
Our goals for this large project was to engage young people and families to identify with the bright colors of all sports and add an exciting visual experience while entering from the parking lots into the main public areas.
Our projects are developed with the collaboration of fabricators making the component parts. The hoop shapes and attachments were made as prototypes and then engineered. All elements are made separately and coated then put on pallets and shipped to the site to assemble. The exterior trees were first and a month later both of the interior areas were put together and installed - all hardware was installed during construction of the ceilings and exterior concrete sites.
This project was the larges for the City of Hutchinson - working hard to develop a public art presence in the community. The Arena will be use by many other sports and an important venue for the region and the various schools and community college.

[ manifesto ]
Art matters. Attention to the details of our environment leads to love of place, which brings us to take responsibility for the spaces where we live and work. And by extension, the people with whom we live and work. And by extension, to our local communities, our cities, our nations, and our world.
We champion the role of artists in our society. We need artists to provide us with inspiration, creativity, and imagination, and to help us envision a better world.
Architects and designers know that remarkable design can change everything. They connect the dots across disciplines, collaborating with artists to make the world a more beautiful place. They are the ultimate patrons of the arts.
In the process, design professionals promote imagination and creativity, and through their commissions, make original art integral to and accessible in people's lives.
Art in our public and private spaces helps us fight ordinary buildings, ordinary streets, ordinary cities. We celebrate the extraordinary.
The architecture of our buildings and the design of our interiors affect our happiness and well-being. Each of us deserves a daily dose of inspiration.
