Overview

This Wild Horse Monument on Interstate 90 in the center of Washington State is located at a scenic viewpoint overlooking the Columbia River. The title of the work is “Grandfather Cuts Loose the Ponies.” The work is a statement celebrating the positive nature of the universe and responsibility of stewardship of life on this planet.

Goals

The work will be a gift to the state of Washington when completed. It is at the point known as the most viewed public work of art in the state. It can be said we are integrating the work into the very fabric of the people on the planet.

Process

This work is an inspiration i feel as an artist and human being. I brought the design to the Grant County Centennial Committee and it was unanimously approved. The plan was then submitted to the Washington State Department of Transportation and given the land to build the monument and then deeded to Grant County. We formed a groupcalled the Thundering Hooves committee to canvas and bring donors into the project.

Additional Information

The work is only partially completed. We took a long intermission following the creation of the horse herd. The completion of the monument which includes the basket and the viewing monument telling the story of the piece.
