Overview
The Garden Grove Retail Center is a retail shopping center development consisting of two single-story buildings incorporating an orchestrated variation of front elevations. The integration of open space and landscape throughout the project, and especially along the Garden Grove Boulevard frontage, provides a continuous pedestrian experience designed to encourage shoppers to interact with the site.
Goals
Nardi Associates created a free standing gate way that operates as an urban public art statement along Garden Grove Boulevard, welcoming visitors to the site.
Process
The City of Garden Grove established Urban Design guidelines where Garden Grove Blvd has been identified as one of the most important “urban corridors” within the city structure. Based in that principle the client and the design team decided to address it by reinforcing with the gateway Art Piece the street edge.
Additional Information
A unique gateway structure articulates a unified identity in contrast with the more traditional commercial corridor of Garden Grove Boulevard. The gateway structure is an urban gesture and art piece exploring a simple relationship of structure and skin while defining a permeable street edge. The colorful articulation of all retail spaces provides a playful statement along the pedestrian axis while creating a sense of identity for each store.
