Goals

The Fire Tower Installation was executed in 2006 during an independent study while at the University of Texas at Austin. The focus was non-human occupancy in our built environment and how everyday, sometimes overlooked buildings can be transformed into active members of our landscape. The aim was to draw attention to the “life force” that the fire tower had all along by giving physical form to the wind that sweeps through it by installing muslin sheets in the windows in doors. The effect is the perception of breath and the illusion that the fire tower breathes just as we do. The process was documented via time-lapse video which further accentuates the character of the building as viewers are able to watch the building breath throughout the course on an entire day.
