Overview

22 kinetic sculptures were created out of painted plexiglass and aluminum rods, suspended around a Ponderosa Pine along a 3-hour guided art hike. Each mobile sculpture moved independently in different directions with the wind, and visitors could interact with the art.

Goals

This installation was created for Trails & Vistas Art Hikes in Tahoe City, CA. The theme of this art hike was to explore the emotional affiliations with the color blue. Emphasizing the beauty in both light and darkness, color shadow played a big role; the blue shadow cast was especially beautiful and really added to the finished artwork. Trails & Vistas mission is to create community by celebrating the arts and nature."Finding Light in the Shadows" 2019.

Process

I worked closely with Director Nancy Lopez to configure the best placement and arrangement of the artwork, and how it would play into the narrative of the guided tours of the Art Hike. Emphasizing the beauty in both light and darkness, color shadow played a big role, so ample sunlight was needed to cast the colors onto the ground.

Additional Information

Trails and Vistas paid a materials stipend, and sold the artwork after the event.
