Overview

On view here is a bronze sculpture on a cement base, one outlying element is located nearby.

Goals

There was, at the beginning, a desire to create a kind of summa of the Calgarian experience. That this was the tenth building to be developed by Bucci was also an influence on the proposed concept.

Process

10 Figures was a fairly straight forward sculptural project. Integration into the plans as the building was being constructed was a matter of coordination between the developer and the artist.

Additional Information

A chaos of flailing limbs. The title describes the work neatly. The concept for this was my gut reaction to life in Calgary, which really is a city in motion, with its cranes, traffic and pedestrians all blurring by. In this work everything swirls around in a loose circle (well almost all: one figure is flung onto a nearby balcony). Scale and literal representation got tossed around a bit in the ten figures and I like the idea of people roiling around and around in life.
