True interactive installation, Face is a video-mapped sculpture that allows the user to play with its own identity while seeing his face projected onto the sculpture in real-time. The installation questions the spectators about control of their own identities in our net society 2.0. It is a spectacular light display: the projections plays with portraits, mixing them with innovative animations and visual effects. The different faces of the sculpture are perfect to catch the light. The original soundtrack matches the animation, creating an immersive atmosphere. Public just have to stand in front of the sculpture to be magically captured in.
Face resulted in the union of 2 creators who wanted to confront and combine their knowledges in 2 different fields; FlorianGirardot in videomapping and Thomas Voillaume in 3D Digitization Sculpture, in order to give birth to a common project. After looking for funding for 2 years, Face was selected and produced for the first time by Fête des Lumières (Lyon, France) in 2016.
Thanks to a partnership between Fête des Lumières and ILLUMINART, Face was produced and presented for the first time in North America, in 2017, at ILLUMINART, taking place in the frame of MONTRÉAL EN LUMIÈRE.
ILLUMINART is a circuit fusing art, lighting and technology, unfolding through downtown Montreal. Aimed at an inquisitive audience eager to discover and explore, the festival assembles projects by artists, designers/creators, engineers, architects, and videographers from home and abroad. The illuminated urban space springs to life, becoming a must-see destination for creativity, inspiration and shared experience thanks to works that are at once surprising, impressive and entertaining.
The artists were given carte blanche to create Face. The version created for North America consists in exactly the same structure and experience, exept for the projector box that was adapted to resist really low temperatures.
The installation is a creation of Thomas Voillaume, Florian Girardot, in collaboration with Guillaume Étienne. After being created and presented in France, Face was presented for the first time in North America for ILLUMINART 2017 edition, in the frame of MONTREAL EN LUMIERE. With the help of CREOS, the world's leading agency for public interactive installations in urban spaces, Face has been presented at Bal des Neige in Ottawa in winter 2018 and in Montreal's music festival IleSoniq, summer 2018.

The global online community that celebrates design projects featuring commissioned artworks.
[ manifesto ]
Art matters. Attention to the details of our environment leads to love of place, which brings us to take responsibility for the spaces where we live and work. And by extension, the people with whom we live and work. And by extension, to our local communities, our cities, our nations, and our world.
We champion the role of artists in our society. We need artists to provide us with inspiration, creativity, and imagination, and to help us envision a better world.
Architects and designers know that remarkable design can change everything. They connect the dots across disciplines, collaborating with artists to make the world a more beautiful place. They are the ultimate patrons of the arts.
In the process, design professionals promote imagination and creativity, and through their commissions, make original art integral to and accessible in people's lives.
Art in our public and private spaces helps us fight ordinary buildings, ordinary streets, ordinary cities. We celebrate the extraordinary.
The architecture of our buildings and the design of our interiors affect our happiness and well-being. Each of us deserves a daily dose of inspiration.
