Tulips dance with light, ancient trees are awakened and the magic of nature comes alive at “Enchanted: Forest of Light.” Created by Lightswitch for Descanso Gardens, “Enchanted” is an original, sensory-stimulating, nighttime event that immerses guests in the beauty of this 150-acre botanical garden through, light, sound and music. The mile-long walk guides guests through eight environments that illuminate some of the garden’s most beloved sites.
After visiting our award-winning holiday show “Illumination” at The Morton Arboretum, Descanso Gardens asked Lightswitch to create and realize an entirely new seasonal experience designed to attract new members and give existing members a fresh take on old favorites. We worked closely with Descanso for more than a year to develop an experience that was tailor made to its unique geography and collection of flora.
“Enchanted” takes a different approach than traditional holiday light shows—expressive, artistic and abstract visual and media displays transport guests to a magical place that is both natural and otherworldly. The eight environments are designed to be progressively more interactive, moving from visually evocative, pixelmapped tulip lights at “Flower Power” to “Lightwave Lake,” where guests can manipulate the color, pattern and direction of spotlights across the water.
“Enchanted” encourages guests to touch, move and engage with nature, forging an emotional connection with this special place. Its first season was a critical and popular success, drawing sold-out crowds and becoming a social media sensation. We are honored to be part of this new holiday tradition that captures the magical spirit of the season.

[ manifesto ]
Art matters. Attention to the details of our environment leads to love of place, which brings us to take responsibility for the spaces where we live and work. And by extension, the people with whom we live and work. And by extension, to our local communities, our cities, our nations, and our world.
We champion the role of artists in our society. We need artists to provide us with inspiration, creativity, and imagination, and to help us envision a better world.
Architects and designers know that remarkable design can change everything. They connect the dots across disciplines, collaborating with artists to make the world a more beautiful place. They are the ultimate patrons of the arts.
In the process, design professionals promote imagination and creativity, and through their commissions, make original art integral to and accessible in people's lives.
Art in our public and private spaces helps us fight ordinary buildings, ordinary streets, ordinary cities. We celebrate the extraordinary.
The architecture of our buildings and the design of our interiors affect our happiness and well-being. Each of us deserves a daily dose of inspiration.
