eFLOW is an interactive sculpture exploring the unique capabilities of E Ink Prism™, a color-changing film developed by E Ink. The sculpture comes alive with visual behavior triggered by real-time sensor input; it detects the presence and movements of people and reacts like an elusive deep-sea creature.
Self commissioned project to explore creative opportunities of this revolutionary new material.
Ueberall International came up with the artistic concept and overall design of the project, including behavior patterns. E Ink Corporation built the sculpture with guidance by Ueberall International.
THE DYNAMIC MATERIAL
eFLOW is the world’s first large-scale 3-dimensional application of E Ink Prism color-changing film. The active layer is made of millions of tiny little capsules containing color pigment sandwiched between two protective films. When a voltage is applied between the two film layers, either the white or the black pigment moves toward the surface. Unlike light-emitting displays that are impacted significantly by ambient light, E Ink Prism works like a printed surface. This material combines the advantages of ultra-low energy consumption with mechanical flexibility that allows for dramatically curved shapes.

[ manifesto ]
Art matters. Attention to the details of our environment leads to love of place, which brings us to take responsibility for the spaces where we live and work. And by extension, the people with whom we live and work. And by extension, to our local communities, our cities, our nations, and our world.
We champion the role of artists in our society. We need artists to provide us with inspiration, creativity, and imagination, and to help us envision a better world.
Architects and designers know that remarkable design can change everything. They connect the dots across disciplines, collaborating with artists to make the world a more beautiful place. They are the ultimate patrons of the arts.
In the process, design professionals promote imagination and creativity, and through their commissions, make original art integral to and accessible in people's lives.
Art in our public and private spaces helps us fight ordinary buildings, ordinary streets, ordinary cities. We celebrate the extraordinary.
The architecture of our buildings and the design of our interiors affect our happiness and well-being. Each of us deserves a daily dose of inspiration.
