Client: Deaconess Hospital

Overview

The project description was to design an art piece to be hung on a 12'W x 9'T wall in a new hospice lobby that would recognize the generous donors for the facility. Finished piece is 8'W x 6'T.

Goals

The primary goal was to design a piece that would be visually interesting with a calm and soothing approach. It was also of the utmost importance to recognize the generous donors for the facility. In the end, I decided to submit a piece that would be comprised of 48 individually carved wooden leaves on 12" square panels in natural woods. Each panel is laser engraved with the donor's name. The panels are hung with two keyhole slots on the back. Leaves are removable so that the panels without names can be removed, engraved and re hung.

Process

I worked very closely with Chris Jackson from The Begley Art Source in Evansville, Indiana. I first submitted small sketches for discussion and eventually produced a scaled maquette. She then submitted the package to the client for approval. It was a great working relationship.

Additional Information

I found that producing a piece for a hospice facility is a unique challenge. Because of the incredible work that these people do along with the emotional of the visitors, I wanted to make something that was both beautiful and serene. I took this project very seriously making sure that I crossed every T and dotted each I. It was a pleasure.
