Client: Terry Crews & Ken Harvey

Overview

Actor, artist and activist Terry Crews and former Washington Redskins linebacker, Ken Harvey, hired us to develop an augmented reality application that would bring their children’s book, Come Find Me, to life. The book was written by Ken and illustrated by Terry and it’s a first-time reader.

Goals

Our client wanted to enhance this child reading experience with a series of augmented reality (AR) 3D real-time animations and it was extremely important that the artist’s drawing style was preserved exactly as it was in the book. Small details like the colored pencil textures and the hairline of the characters were very important to him. It was also incredibly important to make sure the augmented reality was not invasive and didn’t distract from the text and the overall message of the story. The integration of AR in the overall project was key in that it delivered a digital memorable experience that didn’t exist when the book was written over 20 years ago.

Process

The process involved collaborating with the artist, the writer and their art director to create an interactive application that was highly creative and that added an additional “layer” of entertainment to the overall message of the book. A series of meetings to determine color palettes, animation scope, digital assets and more, were conducted before and during the development of the application. Each part contributed valuable feedback and information that allowed us to put our skills to work and launch Come Find Me AR.
