Overview

This special project came together very quickly thanks to the wonderfully supportive designers and architects working with Peter Marino. It is rare to work with such a synergy of vision and ambitious aesthetics. Peter Marino Architects presented me with a space approximately 250 sq ft in their flagship store in Hong Kong and encouraged me to brainstorm on a medium and composition for a feature art installation. I am very grateful to Peter Marino for championing the installation, Christian Dior for accepting, and all of the hard work of my production team to make it happen.

Goals

The goals for integrating the art work were based on the long history of the house of Dior fashion. The color palette, the materials, and the necessity for innovation were integrated into this commission as symbolic of the history of Christian Dior.

Process

The architects at Dior and Peter Marino were interested in a textile infused sculpture or art installation for their flagship store in Hong Kong. I decided to take this primer and integrate this theme into my knowledge of slip casting, ceramics, and contemporary metal coatings. The end result is a very sumptuous and lustrous undulating wall infused with the movement of textiles and enhanced by the other worldliness of metal plated porcelain.
