Overview

“BEEHIVE” was conceptualized as signage, The space was ear marked for a conventional signage but as I was briefed and shown the space all that came to my mind was a beehive considering the area lies very close to the Sanjay Gandhi national park in Mumbai In today's fast concertizing world the pleasure of seeing a beehive is a distant dream. Made in SS Steel with copper plating 9000 hexagon segments weighing a total of 450kgs. This was designed, conceptualized and installed by Raphael Mathew.

Goals

The proportion was deliberately kept smaller to mimic the natural proportions of the Beehive.

Process

As artist & designer for this project, I collaborated with my team of fabricators and an electrician. The fabricating and the desired lighting was achieved over 2 weeks of trials and tests overall the work took 8 weeks to complete.
