The project was to spray paint murals on the interior of the house turning the walls along a spiral staircase. The subject was old beach cars with surfboards. Once the murals were spray painted directly onto the walls, they would then be framed with custom wood frames and the negative space remaining in the stairwell would be stained. To finish off the project spot lighting and LED lighting would be installed in the stairwell to showcase the murals (six total) and also a custom brushed steel handrail to line the entire staircase.
The art work and murals were the entire showcase of this one-of-a-kind beach front property. The single spiral staircase is the only means to travel up and down throughout the property, three stories, top to bottom. So the art work in the stairwell is showcased throughout the entire staircase and really compliments the entire home. The attention to detail and the dramatic size of the murals is stunning and the art work is integral to the home and its incredible design and allure.
The collaboration between Matt and Tim was really cool. Matt designed and did all the art work, layout to finish. The staircase walls were totally blank and the murals were done by hand without any prior layout. Once completed Tim then designed the frames and installed them surrounding the murals and making them singular and really stand out individually. Matt then placed the final details and touches to each individual mural to finish them, making them more like paintings, but painted directly onto the walls. Tim then came in and designed the lighting, the handrail, and the final stain / wash of the negative space surrounding each individual mural. The final result is spectacular.

[ manifesto ]
Art matters. Attention to the details of our environment leads to love of place, which brings us to take responsibility for the spaces where we live and work. And by extension, the people with whom we live and work. And by extension, to our local communities, our cities, our nations, and our world.
We champion the role of artists in our society. We need artists to provide us with inspiration, creativity, and imagination, and to help us envision a better world.
Architects and designers know that remarkable design can change everything. They connect the dots across disciplines, collaborating with artists to make the world a more beautiful place. They are the ultimate patrons of the arts.
In the process, design professionals promote imagination and creativity, and through their commissions, make original art integral to and accessible in people's lives.
Art in our public and private spaces helps us fight ordinary buildings, ordinary streets, ordinary cities. We celebrate the extraordinary.
The architecture of our buildings and the design of our interiors affect our happiness and well-being. Each of us deserves a daily dose of inspiration.
