Overview

Internationally renowned Australian Artist Emily Floyd worked with UAP (uapcompany.com) to deliver her artwork, Allegory of a Cave, for One Parramatta Square (1PSQ), a new commercial development in Sydneyā€™s west. The artwork is the result of a Public Art Masterplan and curation process conducted in partnership with the City of Parramatta and in collaboration with artist and curator, Callum Morton. Floydā€™s work is comprised of 104 square aluminium blocks of varying heights and colours, suspended in a grid beneath the exterior soffit of the 1PSQ building.

Goals

Taking its title from the Greek philosopher Platoā€™s ā€˜Allegory of the Caveā€™, Floyd utilises her signature bold and colourful shapes to gesture towards experimental approaches in educational philosophies and open ended enquiry. Creating her own interpretation of a ā€˜knowledge caveā€™, Floydā€™s work affirms the precinct as an optimistic public space and a centre for information and knowledge production.
