Overview
PROVIDENCE QUILTS combines perforated metal in a variety of hues to create various patterns and images inspired by the Narragansett Bay area. Layering the patterns created moiré effects that enhance the dynamic properties of the “quilts”.
Goals
The artists wanted to create a work of scale that would have a presence but would not blackout light into the interior of the parking decks. By using Perforated Steels and expanded aluminums, not only did light penetrate into the parking structure, but the layered materials create moiré effects on the murals' surfaces.
Process
The artists worked closely with the architects to incorporate the work into the design of the parking deck.
