Warren Carther produces contextually based art for the public realm that embraces innovative concepts and techniques. These works create an environment that provides viewers with a unique experience of that site. He is dedicated to creating art that stimulates thought, conversations and interactions of various kinds. Fascinated by light and optics, his primary medium has always been glass. However, in his more recent work, he is increasingly combining glass with other materials such as steel and concrete. This has enabled him to be even more innovative in engineering his structures. After opening Carther Studio Inc. in the 1980s, Carther has produced many significant projects, often at a very large scale, in North America, Europe and Asia. He has been recognized with numerous awards including having been elected to the Royal Canadian Academy of Art. He has received The Allied Arts Medal from the Royal Architectural Institute of Canada, and The American Craft Award in both Architectural Glass and Sculpture. He holds a degree from the California College of the Arts.
