My appreciation for nature and beauty comes from my Japanese heritage. I was born in Yokosuka. My mother, who is a master in “ikebana”, the art of flower arranging and Japanese calligraphy, taught me early in life to appreciate beauty. My father, an engineer, taught me to explore. I earned a Bachelor of Art degree in painting from California State University in Fullerton. After receiving my MFA from Southern Illinois University in Carbondale with a concentration in metals, I ran the sculpture and metals program at Midwestern State University in Wichita Falls, Texas, and then became head of the sculpture program at Sam Houston State University in Huntsville, Texas. In 1995 I moved to Nacogdoches, Texas, and set up a studio to work as a full time artist. Making art has been my passion since I was very young. I derive great joy in sharing my devotion to beauty with the public realm
