Deedee Morrison continues her work at the forefront of transforming urban landscapes into dynamic and memorable public spaces. With public art, we have the ability to transcend language, impact emotion, conceptual thought, and contribute to an informed public landscape. Through public art we can captivate audiences with the convergence of design with philosophy, history, geology, biodiversity, natural science and technological innovations; sculpting a new place to explore the future of your community. Laying the groundwork for buy-in from diverse community stakeholders is critically important. Morrison conducts extensive research on issues including neighborhood histories, economic and environmental conditions of the surrounding communities, schools, businesses, local biodiversity and the geographic character and anomalies of the area. The result is in-depth understanding of the scope of the project and written narrative outlining this understanding. The narrative communities the purpose and goals of the art project and directs all directs all community outreach projects. Public art is about effective and emotionally engaged story telling. That story and form, flow when collectively, we begin to understand the interactions which exist among the residents of a place; their environment and the historical, social, and economic forces that have brought us here. History is an exercise in crafting narratives that give voice to the past in order to engage with the present. Understanding our past, allows us to imagine renewed vision and future for our communities.
