  • Brief Description

Location: Paragon Star Sports Complex, Lee's Summit, Missouri.

Design Style: The troll sculpture should be family-friendly and evoke a sense of whimsy and imagination. It should resonate with the spirit of adventure and playfulness.

Design Inspiration: While drawing from the Fremont Troll's iconic presence, the sculpture should reflect a softer and more approachable demeanor akin to the creatures found in "Where the Wild Things Are."

Construction Involvement: The selected artist will be expected to be actively involved in the construction process, whether through direct participation or supervision as well as be willing to work with volunteer students, community members and construction team members. Travel to Paragon Star will be required for consultation and oversight.

While all proposals will be reviewed, projects under 10’ in height will get the lowest consideration.

Design Stipend: A design stipend of $15,000 will be awarded to the chosen artist upon selection of their proposal with half of the payment at the start of the project. The stipend includes project supervision and oversight, with the second half of the stipend paid upon completion of the project.

Materials and construction costs will not need to be included in the stipend and will be considered separately. (See more about construction budget and materials list in the proposal requirements below)

Timeline: The RFP opens on May 1st, 2024, and closes on July 15th, 2024.
