  • Brief Description

The Iron Horse District in Holdrege, NE, has opened a Request for Qualifications for a muralist to paint an approx. 1650 sq ft mural on the Rite Way Building, 815 4th Ave, Holdrege, NE.

    Total Project Budget: 25000

    Budget Description:
$25,000 is available for all related expenses of this Public Art commission. The selected artist(s) will be responsible for any and all costs necessary to complete their scope of services, including (but not limited to) artist fees, paint, supplies, equipment rental, insurance, travel, etc.

    Details:
The Rite Way Building Mural will be the first commissioned mural of the newly created Iron Horse District. The goal is to welcome residents and visitors to Holdrege and inspire exploration of a vibrant downtown with historic buildings, exciting local shops, restaurants, and arts events. The finalist will be expected to create a mural design with direction provided by the Mural Steering Group.

The Rite Way Building is located at the entrance to downtown Holdrege, NE. It sits on Hwy 34, a main East/West thoroughfare. The historic downtown features original brick streets and a mix of shops, restaurants, a library, and a theater. The area around Holdrege is known for its rich farmland and livestock. The Iron Horse District also celebrates our history with the locomotive bringing travel, trade, and entertainment to Holdrege.

The Mural Steering Group will select up to three qualified candidates to each create a design for consideration. A fee of $500 will be given to each candidate for their design. The group will then choose one artist/muralist to complete their mural on the Rite Way Building.

Once selected by the Mural Steering Group, the artist will work with the group and the Iron Horse board on all aspects of this project. The chosen finalist must submit a to-scale, color concept sketch to the Steering Group for feedback and approval. Some sketch revisions based on feedback should be expected.
