  • Brief Description

    The City of Avondale seeks a professional artist to design, fabricate, and install an exterior sculpture at the Avondale Fire Station 172 located at 1825 N 107th Ave, Avondale, AZ 85392 The City envisions a water or nature-themed art piece that may either be a sculpture or multiple pieces that tie in with the landscape and neighborhood around the fire station. The artwork should be impactful from all vantage points and work in harmony with the existing landscaping and the nearby Crystal Gardens nature-scape. All public art concept submissions are also strongly encouraged to have a tie to the Avondale community. This relation to the Avondale community may be through the City’s history, culture, neighborhoods, or any other themes that are uniquely reflected within the City. A public art branding guideline will be included that will provide more information.


    PROJECT REQUIREMENTS

    The public art will be located on the exterior of the building in the rock landscape on the north side of the property where the fire station is located The artwork will be located approximately 25 feet off the sidewalk and between two water retention basins on the property and must be freestanding and viewable from all sides and at eye level from the street view There is no maximum height, weight, or width for any proposals, but all artwork shall be placed on The art must be easy to maintain and withstand the outdoor elements.


    • The art must meet Americans with Disabilities Act requirements.
    • The artist will work with the City’s public art project administrator to coordinate installation. Installation shall include preparations, site logistics, delivery, site safety, and other aspects of completing the work.
    • The artist will be required to attend progress meetings, as necessary.
    • The artist will be required to present their concept to City staff to obtain relevant feedback that may be incorporated into the project.
    • All source materials are strongly encouraged to be procured locally or through means that will not cause a significant delay in art installation.
