  • Brief Description

    The Frederick Arts Council is pleased to invite qualified artists and artist teams to submit proposals for an exciting public art project in Downtown Frederick, Maryland. This Request for Proposals seeks innovative and engaging light installations for two distinct locations within the heart of our city – the Sky Stage and the exhibition hall of the Art Center. The project aims to enhance the cultural vibrancy and aesthetic appeal of our community by showcasing the talent and creativity of artists working with light as a medium.

    Project Scope Locations: Sky Stage: 59 S. Carroll St., Frederick, MD 21701, FAC Art Center (2nd Floor): 5 E 2nd St., Frederick, MD 21701 Installation Type: Indoor and Outdoor Light Installations with visually appealing elements for daytime viewing Purpose: Enhance the artistic and cultural atmosphere of Downtown Frederick, create visually captivating and dynamic light installations, celebrate the intersection of art and technology, foster community engagement and interaction.

    Eligibility The RFP is open to artists, artist teams, and artist-led collaborations. The Frederick Arts Council encourages local, regional, and national artists to apply. Applicants should have experience working on public art projects and be able to demonstrate their ability to complete such a project.

    Proposal Guidelines All proposals must be submitted by November 27, 2023 at 11:59 EST. Proposals must be submitted electronically using the Slideroom application.

    Proposal Content Project Description- a statement describing the artistic concept, inspiration, and approach to the project; Resume; Portfolio; Visual Representation- concept sketches, digital renderings, or other visual aids; Artist Bio- a description of relevant public art experience, creative inspirations.

    Evaluation Criteria Proposals will be evaluated based on the following criteria: Artistic merit and creativity, Relevance to the project's goals, feasibility and sustainability, experience of the artist or team, budget realism and clarity

    Timeline Release of RFP: October 26, 2023 Proposal Submission Deadline: November 27, 2023

    Funding The Frederick Arts Council will provide a budget of up to $7,000 EACH (Sky Stage, Art Center 2nd Floor) for the entire project. This budget is inclusive of all project costs, including design, materials, labor, and installation.
