  • Brief Description

Bakery Square is soliciting qualification submissions from artists or artist teams, which if selected, would be brought to life as artwork to be incorporated into/onto the façade of Galley - Bakery Square, at 6425 Penn Ave, on its campus in the Larimer neighborhood of Pittsburgh, PA. This opportunity is for an artist who can work with the Walnut Capital/Bakery Square and the Larimer Consensus Group on a public art piece that will be viewed by thousands. The project requires a residency with Lincoln Elementary and The Urban Academy of Greater Pittsburgh, which upon completion, will be used as inspiration to inform the design and creation of an original public artwork for the Square. The artwork will be on display from 6-12 months onsite, and will remain property of Bakery Square thereafter– with the aim to be relocated to another property owned by the company. A contract will confirm that the artist retains copyright, and set forth all other relevant concerns. Artists will be selected by portfolio and interviews—no proposals are required or accepted.

All types of media are open to this opportunity that can be feasibly realized within or upon the façade of the building, and within the allocated budget for the project. Local artists and artists identifying as BIPOC are strongly encouraged to apply: Any artist(s) with a connection to the Pittsburgh area is eligible. A committee comprised of Bakery Square staff, Larimer Consensus Group Board Members, and local art experts will choose an individual or team to contract for design and production of an artwork in early 2023. An Information session will be held via Zoom on Thur., October 20, 6:00pm. Attendance to info session is not mandatory. RSVP is requested, but not required. You may enter the Zoom meeting the day of, through a link at https://bakery-square.com/art, here, and/or email [email protected] to RSVP/be added in advance and/or to ask questions regarding anything to do with the session or project.
