The Duluth Street Art Initiative requests qualifications for artists for a mural project in the alley of the West 0-100 block of Superior St. in downtown Duluth, MN. Between 1 and 4 artists will be selected to create individual murals.
DSAI is funding a mural project for up to 4 artists. Each artist will be awarded $5,000 to cover all design fees, supplies, materials, equipment, labor, travel and accommodations. No additional financial support or labor can be awarded.
Duluth Street Art Initiative is partnering with Life House of Duluth Minnesota, an organization that provides support for homeless young people between the ages of 14-24. The goal is to create a work of art that reflects the values of the institution. lifehouseduluth.org
All artworks must:
Alley connected to 16th N. 1st Ave. W. Duluth, MN. Walls are brick and in good condition for direct material application. The alley will be divided into 4 sections and one artist assigned per section. Each section will allow for a work between 200 and 400 square feet. Upon acceptance, artists will be assigned a section and provided an image of the wall in order to complete their design. Artists must address the transitions between each section and collaborate with the neighboring artist, should there be one.
Artists over the age of 18 with a connection to the Twin Ports area of Duluth, MN and Superior, WI are eligible. Preference will be given to artists within a 200 mile radius, but it is not mandatory. If artists are not from the area the application must explain your connection to the Twin Ports area. Preference will be given to artists with previous mural experience, but is not a requirement. BIPOC applicants are strongly encouraged to apply.
