  • Brief Description

Frostburg State University (FSU), in partnership with the Maryland State Arts Council (MSAC) seeks to commission an artist or artist team to create durable, unique, permanent public artwork for the new Education & Health Sciences Center (E&HSC). This project offers two artwork commission opportunities: Wall-Mounted two-dimensional, or low relief artwork and Three-dimensional, sculptural or installation-based artwork.

The new Education and Health Sciences Center will house degree programs in Teacher Education, Health Sciences, Kinesiology, Athletic Training, Sports Science, and Nursing, and will include healthcare simulation spaces, as well as FSU’s student health center which provides student counseling and psychological services. The commissioned artworks should serve as a welcoming and attractive addition to the Frostburg State University campus, helping to draw attention to academic programs and campus-wide services offered within the Education & Health Sciences Center. In addition, the artwork must:

    • Be original, unique, and appropriate for the location.
    • Relate to the artwork goals set by the FSU Education & Health Sciences Center Artist Selection Committee.
    • Be highly durable, structurally sustainable, theft and damage resistant.

    • Artists and teams with the appropriate qualifications and experience may apply to both artwork commission opportunities, but are required to submit two separate applications.
