KCCI’s 2022 Community Catalyst team is soliciting proposals from local artists to install a literacy-themed, interactive art exhibit along Tallahassee’s Pedrick Pond trail adjacent to the beautiful Eastside Branch library. This exhibit will provide an opportunity for established and aspiring book lovers to explore our city’s award-winning trail system while stimulating their minds. The Fully Booked concept was unanimously approved by the Leon County Commission on Tuesday, March 8, 2022. The vision is to create an iconic piece of art to serve as a photo backdrop for programming, book clubs, and field trips. It will be supported by a story trail where people read a “book” on signs as they walk around the park. In addition, book themed benches and a hammock garden could invite people to enjoy the park and check out hammocks from Leon County’s new “Library of Things” program. “Fully Booked” will provide artists with an opportunity to showcase their work in a premiere destination while transforming the site into a place where the love for reading can be celebrated as a community. The proposed artwork should: -Improve civic engagement and promote the enhancement of reading within our community -Provide an interactive space that allows visitors to engage physically and mentally with the installation -Create impact in the community by expressing the importance of literacy within our city All artists, design firms, and construction teams are invited to submit a proposal for a permanent, interactive art exhibit that showcases the importance of literacy within our community. The final artist that is selected for this project will be granted a budget of up to $55,000 to carry out the design, fabrication, and installation of their work. Please see the commission document for additional information. The link to the application submission portal can be found here.
