Overview

G2V is a sculpture by artist Jonathan Prince – designed and fabricated for temporary placement at Dag Hammarskjold Plaza in New York City. Art in the Plaza is programed by the New York City Department of Parks and Recreation.

Goals

For consideration of this project artists submit their work to the NYC Parks and recreation Department. Possible sites are decided by the Parks Dept. and the artist can select the site they believe to be most appropriate for the work. I selected Dag Hammarskjold Plaza because the steps leading up to the plaza felt like an alter or sacred space - the perfect place for a work that looks at connections between the modern world and ancient civilizations.

Process

Designing, fabricating, site planning, financing, community approvals, transportation, installation and finally de-installation are all part of the collaborative process. There are far too many people to mention in a process like this that starts minimally a year ahead of the exhibition but I must thank the following people for their help: Jennifer Lantzas (dept of Parks and Recreation), Cynthia Reeves and her gallery staff, The crew at Jonathan Prince Studio and More Specialized for their help in transportation and installation.
