Overview

The 10 acre public nature preserve required a public sculpture using a birdblind as the inspiration for the sculpture. Made in steel and aluminum, the installation is 10′ x 18′ x 4″ deep.

Goals

The birdblind represents a thoughtful and careful interaction between man and nature. The sculpture becomes not only a reminder of our impact on the work, but an intentional backdrop to recreation in this public space, a piece of man-made art, architectural even, in a preserved, wild setting.

Process

The collaboration took the shape of a discussion in the intent of the sculpture, budgeting, and use of the space. Parasoleil offered design, pattern engineering, and structural recommendations based on wind loads and a lasting installation.

Additional Information

The seams between the large panels are hidden in the natural branches of the pattern. The mesh design integrated into the pattern is an abstraction of Parasoleil's "Winter Branches" pattern used for structural integrity and using pattern as a tool for privacy.
