Overview

Blown Glass with Chrome Mirror Finish & 24K Gold Leaf, mirror, lighting elements, cable, 19' wide x 14' tall "FracTur(ed)" is a statement on finding ourselves in our modern society. It is challenging to find our reflection in the mirror, pulled in many directions, focused on many angles, and feeling like we are on a tight wire. Finding peace and tranquility in our ever demanding world is a challenge. I say— follow the light. — Julie Conway

Goals

An artist statement on modern society while also creating an architectural installation to wow an audience. I wanted to use the integration of the creative architectural wall forms and skylights of the Bellevue Arts Museum designed by Steven Holl to accentuate and produce an increased dramatic effect. The adjustable cables suspend the glass in space and allow for multiple angles of the experience.

Process

The perspective of the ideal location in the museum and the exceptional assistance from Bellevue Arts Museum Curators and Installation Staff made this such a dynamic installation collaboration. The BAM truly offered an incredible platform for the education to the public about blown glass and interaction with the artworks.

Additional Information

FracTur(ed) has won an acclaimed international lighting award from LIT Awards as the 2018 Winner of the Artisan Blown Glass Lighting Award! The components ca be configured for any type of space, arranged by their cable suspension. Perfect for hospitality, airports, commercial or even residential. Arrangements could fill long narrow groupings or tighter clusters etc. The photos show an installation of 21' accross, 14-19' tall. Please get in touch for inquiries. (This piece is looking for a permanent installation location) I do not want to store it in my studio-- please get in touch. It was on display for 12 months at the Glasstastic Glass Biennial and now is de-installed.
