Overview

Cloudscape is a 2,000-square-foot cloud-inspired playscape installation at the Fort Lauderdale Hollywood International Airport. Volkan Alkanoglu designed an obstacle course based on cloud formations, a playscape that can be experienced while waiting to board a flight. The installation is made up of four cloud pods that contain integrated benches, a slide, and stepped elements. fabricated out of polyurethane coated white Medite and consists of four cloud structures.

Goals

Alkanoglu and his team naturally drew inspiration from the cloudsā€”ā€œfluffy, airy, white cushions [that] simply resemble a picturesque landscape,ā€ that kids can see from the airplane cabin. Just like the children chasing around the formations, the art work is in motion. It represents the emergence of one state towards another state as clouds do. The cloud formation appears to be changing, evolving, moving, and in constant flux.
