Overview
This commission Slinky Chicks Rock by artist Perci Chester was through Cincinnati Children's Hospital for the entry of their newly renovated Liberty campus, Cincinnati Ohio. Installed July 28, 2015 this polychrome steel sculpture is almost seven feet high by nine feet wide by six feet in depth.
Goals
The theme of the hospital artwork was land, water, and universe. Slinky Chicks Rock represents the human element. The piece denotes the positive energy of expansion and freedom – the power to be who you are. Visually dynamic and slightly kinetic, Slinky Chick Rocks serves as a metaphor for freedom.
Process
The commission was through Cincinnati Children's Hospital for the entry of their newly renovated Liberty campus.
A collaborative project between Cincinnati Children’s, Kolar Design and Marta Hewett Gallery with sculpture by artist Perci Chester.
Additional Information
Painted with jewel-toned automotive pigments the exuberant slinky chick is impervious to time or conventional cultural constraint. This work speaks to the joy of letting go in a world of daunting expectations. Color and perspective change front to back as the twisting arabesque forms create an energy that suggests the sculpture is barely anchored to the ground. Both celebrate the concept of change, adaptability and shape shifting as ways to cope with daily life. Exhilarating and optimistic - running toward a goal with positive energy, trying to fulfill dreams and possibility.
