Overview

This artwork takes river rocks–a loosely scattered element of nature and makes a perfect grid of them. When light hits the grid, the shadows formed lean in different directions depending on the time of day and the angle of the lamp. We express the infinity of nature through the rhythmic harmony of a grid. This installation was created by Stone & Rose Co in collaboration with Rose Ink Workshop for a penthouse residence the design of which centers around themes of nature.

Goals

It was very important that this element worked in conversation with the rest of the penthouse design, and especially the raw root Spanish moss chandelier that hangs right next to the river rock installation. The chandelier shows the wild infinite freedom of nature, and the grid gives off a gentile rhythm, showing nature rationalized by math and the human mind.

Process

The inspiration came from: “The list is the origin of culture. It’s part of history of art and literature. What does culture want? To make infinity comprehensible”. – UMBERTO ECO
