Overview

Create mural-size art to bring life to this area near a train station. 10 arches, each 23' H x 16' W. Details of 10 of my paintings were photographed and printed on vinyl. They've been up for 3 years with no fading or grafitti. Visible from trains, cars, walkers. The work is about the life-force in action and the interconnectedness of all life.

Goals

These arches were created for art but went empty for 5 years. Goal was to fill 4,000 sf with art that would be enjoyed up close but also be visible from trains running from NY's Grand Central Station to towns in the Hudson Valley.

Process

Work with client (a museum) to figure out a visual solution within budget. Shoot a painting (mine) at hi-rez (photographer). Specialized digital whizzes enlarge and shape to fit 10 arches, each one slightly different. Billboard printer. Two installers on a lift with drills. Night lighting guy.

Additional Information

Amazing that a photo of a 1'x1' detail of a painting can be blown up to 23' x 16' with perfect resolution. Cool the grafitti taggers leave it alone. Love dousing harried commuters with organic forms of the natural world. It's nice having work in museums and galleries, but public art lets you have big conversations with big audiences. I like that so much better.
