Overview
The “Leah's View” project is for a private lakeside residence in Anchorage, Alaska. The artist, Rebecca Spivack, worked to bring warmth to the Northern landscape, and she created a plaster mural for the fireplace wall, a 5’ x 30’ extreme vertical rectangle.
Goals
The main goal was to establish a strong visual and spiritual center for the “Great Room” of this contemporary Anchorage home, host to frequent musical and other civic events. Additionally, Spivack had to acknowledge and incorporate local natural elements (sky, light, water, trees) and nurture a dialogue with the client’s extensive Native American art collection.
Process
This project was done in direct collaboration with the client. The mural “Leah’s View” is a grounding element in the center or heart of this home uniting earth and sky. It is meant to welcome all who live there and those who visit both in the long dark months when it’s vivid colors emanate heat and warmth and during the endless light filled spring and summer days, mimicking the dancing light bouncing off of the adjacent lake.
